Employee Wellness Programs for Truck Drivers

An employee wellness program for truck drivers should fit long routes, irregular schedules, nights away from home, limited food and movement options, and safety-sensitive work. It should stay voluntary, happen only when a vehicle is safely parked and secured, protect individual activity privacy, and never replace hours-of-service rules, fatigue management, safe scheduling, maintenance, accommodations, benefits, or professional care.

For HR, safety, fleet, and People leaders supporting long-haul, regional, local, dispatch, maintenance, and office teams, at fleets of any size, from small teams to 500+ employees.

A route changes the program

Wellness programs for truck drivers must fit irregular schedules, long seated periods, safe parking realities, time away from home, and limited access to food, movement, and private space.

A program has to work for long-haul, regional, local, team, and solo drivers without assuming one route or one cab. It has to account for:

  • schedules that differ by route and rarely line up across a fleet;
  • long seated periods, followed by loading, unloading, or inspection work;
  • phones that stay down while driving and during other safety-sensitive tasks;
  • nights away from home, limited parking, and uncertain access to food, showers, and private space;
  • drivers without a desk, regular computer access, or a work email; and
  • different abilities, languages, energy levels, and access needs.

The program also needs to include dispatch, safety, fleet, maintenance, and office teams, without turning driving or loading work into a wellness activity.

What trucking-specific activities look like

These eight activities appear on Fegud’s truck driver wellness card. Each one happens only when the vehicle is legally parked and secured and the employee is off duty or on an authorized break. Every activity is voluntary. Employees can skip it, adapt it privately, or choose something else.

Movement

Relax your shoulders after parking for the day

Wait until the vehicle is legally parked and secured and all driving, loading, inspection, and equipment duties are finished.

Movement

Choose a seated stretch during personal time

Keep the movement gentle and optional. Stop if it hurts, and use an adaptation that fits your body and space.

Nutrition

Pack one food option that stores safely

Choose around storage, sanitation, allergies, culture, appetite, budget, medical guidance, and the facilities available on the route.

Nutrition

Check what food storage you have today

Plan from the cooler, refrigerator, shelf space, or no-storage reality you actually have. No purchase is required.

Mindset

Let a traffic delay be a delay

This does not excuse unrealistic schedules or pressure to break safety rules. The delay is not a personal failure.

Mindset

Take five quiet minutes after the route

Use the quiet time only after the drive and required post-trip work are complete. Rest takes priority when you are fatigued.

Connection

Send a no-reply-needed check-in

Do not share a live route, cargo, customer, schedule, or precise location. The other person does not need to respond.

Connection

Plan a call for a time that works

Pick a time outside driving and safety-sensitive duties. The activity stays optional for everyone involved.

Why a step challenge can miss drivers

One step target compares people with different routes, bodies, devices, facilities, weather, parking options, and job demands. It can reward job movement, exclude people who use mobility aids, and pressure a fatigued driver to add activity when rest is the safer choice.

It can also tempt someone to check a phone at the wrong time. Nothing on a wellness card should ever compete with driving.

The bigger problem is what happens next. A four-week contest ends, and HR is back to launching another campaign from zero, across a fleet that is rarely in one place.

A better recurring program offers private choices across Movement, Nutrition, Mindset, and Connection, and leaves driving and rest alone.

What a recurring program looks like on the road

The card arrives on the first of the month for every driver, wherever the truck is. What changes is when and how each person plays it.

Long-haul

Activities fit a parked evening or a required break, wherever the truck stops. Nothing on the card asks a driver to find a gym or a kitchen.

Regional

Drivers who are home on weekends play the same monthly card as everyone else, at whatever pace their routes allow.

Local

Shorter routes still mean early starts and full days. Activities wait until the route and post-trip work are done.

Home time

Connection activities can wait for days at home. Nothing needs to be completed on a schedule HR sets.

After a long week

Rest days let a driver step back without explaining why. When someone is fatigued, rest is the right choice, not one more activity.

Month to month

Each month brings a new personalized card, while private adaptations and settings carry forward. HR does not relaunch anything.

What trucking employers still own

Wellness never transfers employer responsibilities to drivers. Employers still own:

  • compliant scheduling and hours-of-service practices;
  • fatigue management and safe parking planning;
  • vehicle maintenance and training;
  • sanitation and access to facilities;
  • reasonable accommodations, benefits, and EAP access; and
  • emergency support and appropriate professional care.

FMCSA hours-of-service rules set driving and rest limits for commercial motor vehicle drivers.1 NIOSH describes how irregular schedules, long hours, limited food and movement options, isolation, and fatigue affect long-haul drivers.2 Equivalent obligations apply under the laws and regulators of other jurisdictions.

Wellness activities belong around that foundation. They cannot replace it.

What Fegud adds to a wellness program

Enrollment without a work email

HR can post a QR join code or provide a break-room kiosk link. An employee signs up with an email they can access, requests to join the company, and appears in HR’s approval queue. No invite email or corporate account is required.

English, French, and Spanish

Fegud is available in English, French, and Spanish. Each employee chooses the language that works for them, so a team that works in more than one language does not need a separate campaign.

Private personalization

Employees can choose seated, low-energy, low-sensory, and low-mobility adaptations. Those choices are not visible to the employer.

Monthly variety

Each employee receives a personalized 24-activity card each month across Movement, Nutrition, Mindset, and Connection, rather than repeating one challenge format indefinitely.

Group-level reporting

HR sees company participation and named department or team patterns for groups of three or more members. Groups smaller than three are combined so no individual can be identified from a group’s numbers. HR does not see an individual’s completed or skipped activities.

Voluntary participation

Employees can skip or change an activity without turning wellness into a test. Participation should never affect performance reviews, attendance, scheduling, discipline, accommodations, benefits, or access to required breaks.

How to roll out a truck driver wellness program

  1. Include every work group. Plan for long-haul, regional, local, dispatch, safety, fleet, maintenance, and office teams.
  2. Keep participation voluntary. Never connect completion to route assignments, safety scores, performance, or discipline.
  3. Protect driving and rest. Activities wait until the vehicle is parked and secured and the person is off duty or on an authorized break.
  4. Give employees private choices. Let people choose focus areas, difficulty, and adaptations without reporting those choices to HR.
  5. Measure without monitoring individuals. Use company and eligible group patterns, not personal history or location.

A simple rollout can start in about 30 minutes. QR and kiosk enrollment work for drivers who rarely see a desk, and the trial lets your team test it before making a commitment.

What HR actually sees

Fegud’s HR report is built around program-level information:

  • company participation and active-member totals;
  • named department and team patterns for groups of three or more members, with smaller groups combined so no individual can be identified from a group’s numbers;
  • focus-area mix, badges, streaks, and bingos; and
  • a program-level suggestion for the next month.3

The monthly report does not show employee names, individual activity histories, private answers, notes, or personal wellbeing profiles.3 HR never sees a driver’s route or location through Fegud. Company admins can see whether an invited person has joined because they manage invitations and seats. What that person completes, skips, or adapts remains private from the employer.4

Is Fegud a good fit for your trucking company?

Fegud is a strong fit for fleets that want one recurring, voluntary program for drivers and office teams without giving HR access to individual wellness activity. It is especially useful when most of your people are on the road, rarely at a desk, or working in more than one language.

Fegud is a good fit when you need

  • one program for drivers, dispatch, maintenance, and office teams;
  • activities that protect driving and rest;
  • QR or kiosk enrollment for employees without a work email;
  • English, French, and Spanish;
  • private activity adaptations chosen by the employee; and
  • group-level reporting that does not expose individuals.

Fegud is not designed to replace

  • safety programs or fatigue management;
  • hours-of-service compliance;
  • maintenance, parking, or sanitation;
  • an EAP, clinical care, benefits, or accommodations; or
  • dispatch tools or individual employee monitoring.

If the goal is voluntary participation across every route while keeping individual activity private, Fegud belongs on the shortlist.

Truck driver wellness program questions

Can drivers participate without using the app while driving?

Yes. Fegud activities are completed only when the vehicle is legally parked and secured and the driver is off duty or on an authorized break. Nothing on the card asks a driver to handle a phone while driving or during another safety-sensitive task.

Does Fegud replace fatigue management or hours-of-service compliance?

No. Fegud is a voluntary employee participation program. It does not replace hours-of-service compliance, fatigue management, safe scheduling, parking, vehicle maintenance, training, accommodations, benefits, emergency support, or professional care.

What does HR see about participating drivers?

HR sees company participation and named department or team patterns only for groups of three or more members. Smaller groups are combined. HR does not see an individual driver’s completed or skipped activities, private adaptations, notes, route, location, or personal wellbeing answers.

How can a program work across long-haul, regional, and local routes?

Employees complete short activities when they fit their own off-duty time or an authorized break. Long-haul, regional, local, dispatch, safety, fleet, maintenance, and office teams can join one monthly program without sharing one schedule.

Can drivers choose activities that fit different abilities and needs?

Yes. Employees choose focus areas, difficulty, and private adaptations, including seated, low-energy, low-sensory, and low-mobility options. Those personal choices are not visible to the employer.

Is Fegud available in more than one language?

Yes. Fegud is available in English, French, and Spanish.

Is Fegud a good fit for a trucking company?

Fegud fits trucking companies that want recurring voluntary activities, deskless access, private personalization, several languages, and group-level reporting. It is not a transportation safety system, clinical service, dispatch tool, or individual-monitoring product.
